In 2004, a small group of Castle Park Elementary teachers who had committed or covered-up serious and repeated violations of law were supported by the ubiquitous Felicia Starr. Starr opposed the district when it tried to transfer abusive teachers and clean up Castle Park in 2004. PTA Embezzlement Starr, as a member of the Castle Park Elementary School Site Council, did little to help the Chula Vista Police Department retrieve the $20,000 that went missing from PTA accounts in 2005. Starr wrote to the San Diego Union Tribune in 2004: "As the parent of 11 children, all who have attended or are attending Castle Park Elementary School...I have been involved with this school for 15 years, 12 of which I have been an active member of the [School Site Council] and PTA. I have chaired the Budget Advisory Committee the past two years for the district (Chula Vista Elementary School District). I now am spending every free moment working on the protest rallies, speaking to the board, writing letters and hand delivering them to all board members, as well as numerous phone calls trying to get our teachers back. I will not stop trying to make the superintendent, principal, and the district accountable for their erroneous actions. I have personally seen the ineptness of the principal at our site and have complained to Dr. Lowell Billings, the superintendent, about him. All to no avail other than to see our Castle Park family ripped apart." 4. Starr and her hand-picked successor as PTA president, Kim Simmons, went to the Star-News and maliciously criticized the Castle Park principal and the "Mexican parents." One good thing has resulted from Starr's refusal to allow "Mexican parents" to become PTA officeholders: none of those parents are suspected embezzlers! Starr was involved in the turmoil in the decade preceding 2004. PTA Arrest Of course the police didn't want to know what happened to the $20,000 that disappeared from Castle Park's PTA in 2005; that would have embarrassed Cheryl Cox. So the police waited for a year, did a slap-dash investigation, arrested Kim Simmons without having enough information to prosecute her, and then District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis dropped the whole thing. 6. Why didn't Starr complain during the years leading up to 2004, when many excellent teachers were forced out of Castle Park Elementary by a small group of teachers that controlled the school? Was Starr in on that? 7. Starr helped incumbent Pamela Smith cover up her wrongdoing, then ran against her. What was she thinking? She lost because she wasn't the incumbent--and she couldn't tell the truth. 8.Taxpayers should not continue to pay huge legal bills for teachers who refuse to obey the law. Castle Park teachers and union leaders should not continue to hold students hostage to their demands.
Russell Coronado candidate for CVESD school board in 2006 than either Felicia Starr or incumbent Pamela Smith RUSSELL CORONADO, principal and counselor, would be an excellent replacement for Pam Smith. Strangely, candidate Felicia Starr is strikingly similar to Pam Smith, and not just in appearance. Both women have worked overtime to exacerbate problems at Castle Park Elementary. Pam Smith is perceived to be anti-union, and Felicia Starr is perceived to be pro-union, but the truth is, they are both simply pro-strife. Perrennial also-ran Willard Howard is again trying to be a spoiler in this race.

endorsements made by La Prensa seems to use no logic at all in its choices. I disagree with many of these choices, but I think they are interesting. La Prensa October 30, 1998 Chula Vista Elementary School District La Prensa San Diego cannot in all good sense recommend candidate Bertha Lopez A candidate for an Elementary School District post must be above reproach in conduct, morals, and ethical conduct. With a police record on file for "Domestic Violence" and a Restraining order against her on July 1993. We cannot in good sense consider her a fit candidate to guide the future of our children. [Maura Larkins' note: It turns out that Bertha Lopez has been no worse than any of the candidates that La Prensa endorsed.] Seat 1 - La Prensa San Diego recommends REY MONZON as far away the most qualified candidate with an impeccable character, morals, and values. [Maura Larkins note: Monzon did not win, and that is probably best for him. He is completely innocent of the illegal actions of Pam Smith, Larry Cunningham, Patrick Judd, Bertha Lopez and Cheryl Cox.] Seat 3 - We endorse the reelection of Pamela B. Smith... Seat 5 - Larry Cunningham deserves our support even though at first he was... SWEETWATER UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT Seat 1 - Jim Cartmill is our man. For his support in helping hold the Board together with the trials and tribulations that followed the Supt, Trujillo firing, the trauma of the Supt, Rindon illness, and providing the support for Supt. Brand, we think Cartmill earn the right for one more term. VOTE FOR JIM CARTMILL Seat 3 - Encumbent Greg Sandoval lost our support with his appearance on a Right Wing voter guide supporting the entire Radical Right Wing agenda. The guide indicates that he supports the leader of the anti-bilingual programs in our schools. Our vote goes to candidate Jose Lopez who led the expose of Supt. Trujillo and led to his firing from the district. He had the courage to speak out while the rest of the insiders kept quiet. He earns our vote. He has already shown he cares about our kids. VOTE FOR JOSE LOPEZ Seat 5 - Are you willing to let Arlie Ricasa BUY a seat on the school board? It is obscene for her to spend $49,000 dollars to get a seat on a school board. That is almost enough to win an Assembly seat. Inexperience, young and evidently owned by some heavy hitters from Los Angeles, we wonder what the price is to sell out our kids! Not only that, she joined Greg Sandoval in endorsing the entire Right Wing slate in California. I wonder how much Sandoval got... It's not on his campaign disclosure statements. Have to go with the hard hitting Granny RUTH CHAPMAN, we know she is a straight shooter that has only one interest: Her Kids in the Sweetwater School District. VOTE FOR RUTH CHAPMAN Community Colleges: San Diego Community College District La Prensa recommends that the following selections be made for Districts A, C, & E: District A; MARIA NIETO SENOUR District C: KARA KOBEY District E: JIM MACK Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District La Prensa San Diego is of the opinion that Rick Alexander & Rebecca Clark should be voted out of office. Perhaps Rebecca's mother can find something else to do other then running the college through her daughter. Rick has disrupted the operations of the colleges long enough. He should go to Alpine and join Mrs. Clark in doing whatever she does out there. We support the following candidates: Seat 1: C. SCOTT CIOFFI Seat 2: STEVE JONES Seat 5: LISA DE JESUS Grossmont Union High School District After a number of years of turmoil, the time is here now to vote in members of the Board who do not have particular Ax to grind. The opportunity is here to vote three new members and get back to the business of education. La Prensa recommends the follow candidates: Kenneth L. Blalack James P. Miller Linda A. Potter San Diego Unified School District District B: Sue Braun unfortunately sold out to the Chamber of Commerce and took money from them for this election. That poisons the well and La Prensa cannot support her reelection. We need free and independent Board members that do not have to ask the Chamber how to vote. La Prensa recommends: District B- MICHAEL MIKE McSWEENY District C- JOHN DE BECK SCHOOL DISTRICTS San Ysidro School Dist. Does San Ysidro need inexperienced persons administering and overseeing a $220 MILLION BUDGET? We think not. Over 4000 students depend on their School Board to assure that the receive a good education. La Prensa San Diego recommends the REELECTION OF: Jean Romero, Yolanda Hernandez Juan Tirado SOUTHWESTERN COMMUNITY COLLEGE Three seats are open. In seat 2, Terri Valladolid chose not to run for office. Seat 4 and 5, two experience office holders are running for reelection. La Prensa San Diego recommends the reelection of G. Gorden Browning, Robert Bareno, and Maria Perman for seats 2, 4, and 5. NATIONAL SCHOOL DISTRICT REELECT: Rosalie Alvarado, Anne Campball, and Frank Perez. There was no opposition to them on the ballot.
CVESD board race 2008 Seat 2 Archie McAllister is the people's candidate. He's endorsed by the Republican party in his race against another Republican, David Bejarano. He is also endorsed by a Democrat--me! No to Norberto Norberto Salazar is on the ballot for the same reason as David Bejarano--to maintain the status quo. Salazar is a spoiler, running for the purpose of splitting the anti-incumbent vote. A vote for Salazar is a vote for Bejarano.
